Jeep: installed Lange Hoist-A-Top Crank

jeep hardtop hoist jk

I installed a hoist in my garage today to lift my hardtop. As you can see the first time around didn’t go perfect. The hardtop is leaning forward way too much. I’m going to have to adjust the frame to balance it next time. I installed the Lange Hoist-A-Top Crank for JK. While it works well, the directions were hard to follow and I had to call them. I chose the Lange Hoist-A-Top because I wanted only a 1 point install in my ceiling instead of a 4 point. Honestly I just felt too lazy to do 4.

A couple things I had to do different for this install was I had to go up in the attic and hammer in 2x4s next to the original rafter to help support the ceiling rafters. Also, I had to use the side wall in my garage instead of the front wall. So, I went to Home Depot and bought a mason bit, a hook and concrete screws to hold the crank.

After hoisting the top I lowered it onto a blanket. Then I tipped it onto the hardtop cart that I already had.
